The armrest is pretty easy to remove. Here's how:
First, you must remove the vent and switch assembly at the rear of the console. This is removed by carefully pulling the assembly straight back. You may need to initially pry slightly with a taped up putty knife at the top to release the clips, but I found that I can pull it out fairly easily by hand. Just make sure that you do not break the alignment pegs on the corners of the vent assembly.
Once the vents are out of the way, you will find one 13mm nut (location circled) at the base of the armrest toward the right side that holds the armrest in. This is the ONLY bolt that you need to remove. It is a little tough to get to, as it is somewhat behind the A/C duct and has limited clearance. I found my Gearwrench racheting wrench works the best. Be aware that is easy to drop this nut, adding lots of time and frustration to the job. Disconnect the phone wiring at the connector at the base of the armrest, and pull it straight up and out. You now have access to the top of the console.
