Re: when you wanna let me help you with the swap? i wanna learn
I was hoping I would be a month into it already. Been busy and getting a late start.
I'll get started April 3 and I'm busy the frist part of May. Hopefully after that I'll be far enough along that it will be worth the trip.

NHSTA Recall Summary (LONG)
This is posted at the nhtsa.dot.gov site (it just says 2004 model year cause that is how I did the search):
Recalls Summary
Make: AUDI
Model: A6
Year: 2004
Recall Number: 04V133000
Summary:
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, PHYSICAL CONTACT OF THE LEFT DRIVERS SIDE CRASH ELEMENT WITH THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH WIRING HARNESS COULD RESULT IN AN ELECTRICAL SHORT.
Consequence:
A FIRE COULD ORIGINATE IN THE LEFT DASHBOARD AREA.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSTALL A PROTECTIVE COVERING ON THE CRASH ELEMENT. IN ADDITION, THE WIRING HARNESS AS WELL AS THE FELT PROTECTOR ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE DASHBOARD CARRIER WILL BE CHECKED, AND REPLACED IF NECESSARY. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JULY 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT AUDI AT 1-800-822-2834.
Notes:
CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).
I called cust. service at AoA and inquired about this issue..they were coy about the details and insisted there was not a recall. They stated "We are working with this agency on the reports of smoke coming from our dash." Sounds to me like they are going to fight the NHSTA on this one.
I am now in a CYA mode and have notified my dealer and have opened a case file on this subject with AoA...just in case mine burns to the ground while Audi is disputing this with the above gov. agency. I am also keeping pretty damn good records of all these conversations with the above.
