Default Spoke to ZF Industries re; TIP...

1. the fluid is synthetic, not typical ATF;
2. fluid "rated" for 10 yrs or 100k miles:
3. Tech's personal opinion is change at 50-60k.
Thats all I need to know!

Default And I think he's incorrect on the fluid. It seems to be mineral based.

I'm pretty sure Waterloo talked to someone else at ZF, when he visited their Chicagoland rebuilding facility, and was told it was mineral oil-based.

I know that <a href="http://www.zf-group.com/pdf/OilReferenceGuide.pdf">this page from ZF's web site</a> identifies the required fluid as Esso LT71141. It is this fluid that gets repackaged as VAG ATF. The 5HP19FLA and the 5HP24A are the common A4, A6, and A8 automatic transmissions.

Also, <a href="http://zf-marine.com/Gears/D_Lubricants_4D.cfm?CFID=2352512&CFTOKEN=40786112& CFApp=1&Redirected=1&CFMessageID=4&NSRED=4">this page from ZF Marine</a> identifies LT71141 as being mineral-based.

Personally, I'd take reference info like that over a tech / parts guy's statements. Though just because it's on the Internet, doesn't make it The Truth. ;-)

I think synthetic is mineral based. The difference is in how it gets constituted.

Usually, you see the synthetic guys comparing their product to mineral-based oils.

Default cheapest place I've found for it so far...

<a href="http://etyproducts.server101.com/quantity%20discounts.html">VW/Audi ATF Transmission Oil - Part "G 052 162 A2"</a>

Only $9.50/litre if you buy more than 5 (you will!)
