Cold Weather Uninitiated Acceleration

Cold Weather Uninitiated Acceleration
For the second time in two years I have experienced a dangerous situation with my 98 A6 when operating in single digit (6F) temps. Without warning at highway speeds the accelerator begins to increase by itself. This has only occured when the temps have dropped below 10 degrees F. When this happened again this evening, I had to keep braking to hold the speed down.....if I did not use the brake, the car would accelerate about 5MPH every 10 seconds. When I stopped at an exit, I had to turn off the engine to keep the engine from overrevving. This problem has only happened with extremely cold temps. Before I consult with my local Audi Dealership (who took 3 attempts this year to fix an oil leak & made other unauthorized repairs), I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on what may be causing this. Thanks in advance.

Some people reported this last winter I think
As I recall, when it got really cold out, many glitches come up with Audi's and other cars in general.
I can remember more than one person complaining about this, do a search and you might find something. Maybe limit your search to 11/02 to 3/03.

I would put a call into AoA HQ to make sure they get a proper report of this....
It is a plus that you observed it so carefully and calmly, and observed it twice, and aren't all upset and thus less credible to some people. I'm sure it is rare, but not rare enough in your case. I'd work both up and down the chain at the same time, letting each know what you are doing with the other. This is beyond just a dealership to deal with. We don't know if this is a problem that other VINs are susceptible to, but just in case, it would be good to let them check out your car.

Yeah, it's a design flaw with the nDBW cars.....
Audi has some coolant hoses that run directly underneath the throttle. The heat from the coolant can cause condensation to develop in the throttle body and when cruising in cold weather it can freeze up.
Dealers usually just change the TB and call it good.
