the car running perfectly. I guess it could be an emissions sensor thing or that my K&N filter needs cleaning. I'd appreciate any feed back so I can snoop around before going to Audi since it is out of warranty. BTW, does anyone remember what a recent warranty increase was for. I think it was some emissions related item. Thks.

Could be MAF sensor is contaminated with K&N filter oil....
This happens frequently on other cars, so I'll bet it *may* be the cause of your problem. I'd check the MAF, clean it, then see if the engine light comes on any more. Sometimes it takes several starts before these fault code errors go away.

It could be tons of stuff....but you might want to check this out
This is a common problem with the five valve 4.2's, the air injection pump system turns off because a vacuum hose gets too short....don't ask me why it does, but I've seen it on A8's and A6's at least 5 or 6 times. All the details and pictures are at the post below. Very easy to check.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/19663.phtml</a

Load detection
implausable value
The guy at the dealership that did it (the svc dept. was closed) didn't know what it meant. I had forgotten about this. The light went out and never came back on until now.
