Yikes, just got an extended service contract quote from IWS...
I know one or two of you recommend them, but jeebus, they want $4,300 to cover my '01 Avant (39k miles still under warr.) for an add'l 3 yrs./50k after the factory warranty, or $2,700 for an additional 2 yrs., 30k (36 mo/80k contract), with $100 deductible.
The AAA contract is looking better (?)

Yikes is right! Where are you Jon? How many other extended warranty companies
have you researched?
I've looked at a few and have seen nothing near $4k. Also, for me (in Massachusetts) AAA was more expensive than many others I looked into.

Northern VA...
I've checked out several and they are all in the $2,200-2,500 range roughly for what I'm looking at (~3 yr./35-40k coverage beyond factory warr.). That includes Warranty Direct, 1source (will not buy from them, we have a contract w/ them on our other car and while they've paid more than we paid for the K, I have issues w/ them), WarrantyGold (won't touch them now), the 3d party our Audi dealer offers, and a couple through dealers here.
AAA is ~$1,765, not quite as inclusive but a decent contract and it will cover the real major hits if there are any (cam seals, Tip, control arms, ABS).
I remain very wary of extended svc. contracts, they are a crap shoot; your odds may be better on a higher maint. car like an Audi but they are still based on actuary calcs. that will return a profit to the contract seller.
regards,
Jon

I agree with your perspective on extended warranties being a "crapshoot"....
that's why I've been delaying making a decision and pulling the trigger on this. Where I'm netting out is that these cars are very complex, parts are expensive, labor is expensive, and in my case with a MY '00 2.7T I'm more likely to have some issues so I'll probably be better off with the extended warranty than without it.
It may turn out to be nothing more than expensive "peace of mind" if I never use it but I'm thinking it will be more than that, especially since I plan to keep the car several more years.
Have you tried Extended Auto Warranty yet? They quoted me 6 years, 100K for $2349 with $0 deductible. They are my leading candidate right now - I've read the contract and it seems reasonable.

Bought AAA In Massachusetts for my 2000 2.7t
I bought it 6 months ago for $2200. 5 years up to 100k miles - EXCLUSIONARY - the ONLY one to buy. In my case it was/is "peace of mind".
I love this car, but I do pay alot of attention to reliability and could not justify buying one. A great purchase price let me figure I could buy the extended warranty and then both enjoy the car and have some peace of mind!
These cars are great fun. - but they break down alot. Read the board - people here get new O2 and MAF sensors about as often as I used to get my 93 Acura Legend oil changed!
So far: 1 O2 sensor/ 1 MAF sensor/ 1 Power Seat Switch/ 1 radio component. Dealer charged $1200 - I paid my $50 deductible. AAA even picked up a days rental.
These are insurance contracts so they are supposed to make money. When you buy a good one you are insuring against "Excessive repair costs" and buying some peace of mind. I also view it as a bonus for resale.
Exclusionary is the only way to go. Read the contract whatever you do!

I got a 125K/7year for my 4.2 for $2400 from Extended Warranty Corp. w/ comprehensive coverage.
Let's see how they do, have not made any
claims yet. But the price and terms were
the best by far. I'm also in VA.

Paid $1600 for an "exclusionary" warranty 5yr/100k miles on my '00 4.2...........
Got it from WarrantybyNet.com. The warranty pretty much includes everything except wear and tear items. My car has 26k miles on it so the warranty will go til 2008 or 126k miles. This is the best deal that I found after an extensive search.

Re: Gee, '93 Legend to a 2.7t - me too. Eventually you get an itch to drive German again.
No kidding! The thing ran like a watch to 150k miles. I kept wanting to sell it and get something exciting - but the darn thing wouldn't break!
Anyhow, nothing like the Audi 2.7t w/ Quattro in the twisties!
Actually - I just got my first speeding ticket in 10 years - Great car!!
