Default 4.2 rotor options

Last month I had a brake job done by a indie shop. They replaced all the pads and turned the rotors up front. it wasnt cheap. About a week ago my car developed a nasty vibration during braking. I'm assuming they may have turned them too far which ultimately led to warping (but i could be wrong). Either way, in light of what i just spent on the brake job, a Brembo big brake kit is out of the question for now, though I'll still probably end up having to replace the rotors (BTW, how big are they). So, what I am wondering is if anyone has replaced their 4.2s discs with a cross drilled or slotted peice, and if so what make and how much did they cost?

Default DBA discs seem to be the best bet. $320/set from AWE

Default For my '00 4.2 I just bought a pair of OEM front rotors from.......

GermanAutoParts.com for $270. If you don't care about the manufacturer I found some aftermarket rotors by NeoTech??? from BrakeWorld.com - Solid for $170, crossdrilled for $230. I didn't want to take a chance on the aftermarket so I went with the OEM.

Default Not sure about the HP-2 designation but I know that my car has the ........

Lucas calipers with 4 pads per disc on the front. I think they are 322mm in diameter?

Default HP-2 info (all HP-2 Audi owners need to know this)

The above is a picture of my HP-2 calipers (before I painted them red!) from the tech section writeup I did on changing the pads. Note: this is incredibly easy on the HP-2's - much easier than other Audi brake systems (see URL below).

HP-2's are 4 pad, 2 piston calipers, with 12.6 in. (321 mm) ventilated disc rotors, supplied on the Audi "performance" models - S4, S6, A6 2.7t, (for a while) A6 4.2 etc.

The Audi HP-2 rotors have a reputation and tendency to warp (many have had theirs replaced many times) which is a good reason to go with aftermarket ones after your warranty is up.

The Audi pads are tremendously expensive and very "dusty" which is a good reason to go with aftermarket ones. I recommend Mintex Redbox (approx $80-$90 for a set), others have liked other aftermarket brands too (do a search).

https://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel24.shtml

Best bet in what respect. Longevity, less prone to warpage, both ?

Default you have pad deposits...

Get a die grinder with a metal polishing wheel and surface the disks. What you are looking for is the kind that resembles a bunch of little strings all jumbled together with some glue on them. I don't know a better way to describe it. It will knock off the uneven layer of pad depsosit, but not scratch the disk. Make sure you wear a dust mask, or get good at holding your breath. After this, drive the next three hundred miles of stop and go driving easy. Should solve your problem.
