I think I am getting screwed by my dealer and Audi...
About a month ago, I brought my wife's A6 into Valenti to get the 40K service, oil change and some warranty work. The car had ~49,500 miles on it when we brought it in the first time. They had to order a new ABS sensor and HVAC fan so the car had to go back in. I brought it in last week and on the way there I smelled some oil burning (wife didn't know what that was). I asked them to look at it and they said that the timing chain tensioner (IIRC) is leaking on the drivers side and therefore it is dripping onto the ex manifold. I said, "great when will it be done?" expecting this to be fully covered even though the car now has 50,500 miles. I was told that the cost would be $1200-$2000...and that it wasn't being covered by Audi. I pushed back and when I picked the car up the service manager informed that the regional rep was there that day and approved a 50% coverage.
As far as I'm concerned, they should have picked the leak up when they did the last major service (a 40K at 49K). I have bought 4 cars from this dealership in the last six years and was planning another in January. What should I do?

Ask for Lou.......
I am very familar with Valenti & I can tell you the quality of the service varies. I would avoid going to the service writer & deal with Lou or Chris. Lou is excellent & vary fair. I have purchased 5 cars from them & I would not expect to be treated like that.
If Lou can't help it will be an uphill battle. I would than speak to the sale's manager &/or owner.
good luck

How accurate is your odometer?
You probably want to read the entire thread generated by this <A HREF="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/38344.phtml">A8/S8 Post</a> and this <A HREF="https://forums.audiworld.com/a8/msgs/38392.phtml">Reply</a> in particular.

Did they deny warranty based upon the fact that you got your 40K service 9500 miles late?
I don't know whether or not the tensioner or surrounding area are checked at 40K, but if so, going in at 49.5K probably hurts your case.

Warranty v. practicality . . .
Sure, they can probably stick it to you if they follow the warranty to the letter.
But, you've been a loyal customer, and they should take care of you. If you're trading the car in, try to work the repair costs into the deal. After all, the $1200 is the cost to you including the dealer's profit.

FWIW, if you didn't complain about leaking oil under warranty, they won't fix it, even if...
they see it when they do service.
If it is not on the service checklist and you don't make it an issue, they ignore it, even if there is an obvious problem. I was told by an Audi dealer service manager that this is policy. Nice huh?
