Transmission re-code Unsuccessful
My '99 A6 trans code is 00000. When is try to change it with the vag-com, the new code appears to be accepted, then when I select do-it, the 00000 code reappears. I've tried numerous combinations of the codes listed on the forum, but no permanent changes are made. Any ideas?
Thanks

PaulW - You' the man!!!!
I just tried coding my transmission about an hour ago using both 00022 and 00032, but it wouldn't accept it in my car either.
I always thought it couldn't be done either because my car is a '98 or bacause it's a 2.8. It has always bothered me that the car never really downshifted when I wanted it to, and now it does!!!
This is like getting the transmission I always wanted. I just took it for a short spin after recodoing the transmission using 00010, and it works just perfectly. It's amazing what a difference it makes.
Today I'm a happy camper... )

Yes you do be da man!!
00010 seems to be the only code I didn't try before, and is the only one besides 00000 that mine will take. Now the D mode shifts as it always should have - no more hesitation as it seemed to be trying to find the right gear, and the tip stays in 1st until I send it to 2nd.
Anybody with a '98 - '99 A6 would do well to do this mod.
Thanks a million Paul!

For 1999 (pre drive-by-wire) A6's the only coding values documented by
the factory are 00000 and 00010. Control modules will reject any
values that do not correspond to options actually available in the firmware.
The 2000 and newer cars (drive-by-wire) have a lot more options, and the
chart you're looking at may be for them.
