Phone Speaker on a 99 A6 Avant?
I just had my phone speaker (inside the b pillar)replaced under the extended warranty along with some oil leaks too. Before you ask, I had the prop shaft seal, both cam tensioner gaskets and one trans axle seal. Now lets go to my question.
My phone speaker is connected to my left side front speaker. The Dealer said its normal. I don't believe and I'm searching for some help before I blow the speaker again. The speaker is rated to 20W and if I increase the volume on my stereo, its going to blow again.
What I would like to do is have someone that has the factory phone installed, check to see if the pillar speaker plays music too. And if someone has any impute, help is always appreciated.
Thanks

I'm about to try the same thing, and my understanding is
If you have the Bose system, the speaker in the B pillar is the phone speaker. If you don't have Bose, the phone is wired to the right front stereo speaker.
I haven't gotten in there yet to test all this, perhaps this weekend I will (car is at dealer for service right now).
Do you have Bose audio?
Also, what are you using for an antenna, I'm not sure if one is wired or not with the Bose...
In any event, keep us posted on your progress, I'm happy to go to school some more before I start into this (my car is also an assured 99.5 avant).
(I'm also trying to wire a subwoofer into the system as well)
Good Luck!

IS THIS SARGENT SCHUTT??
THE Sarge Schutt whose Audi 200 was once covered in European Car magazine? Sarge Schutt of the old qlist fame? If so... cool!
I had no idea that you had moved into a C5 Audi. Is that a 4.2 I see in your history? Was that a tough move from a 4.2 to a 2.8 Avant?

Re: I have the Bose Symphony radio
I don't know exactly what antenna you are asking but I think the roof ant is the one. I was told that the radio antenna is in the rear side glass.
I had my radio replaced under EW two months ago. I also suspect a programing problem but the dealer couldn't confirm that. If you have a factory analog phone, try to play with the balance and fade and see if its also connected to the left front speaker by making the phone ring. Another trick is to increase the volume and place your palm over the speaker and see if music is coming out .
Thanks for the effort!

The roof antenna does not serve the radio? It's only for the phone?
That would make some sense that some have made that cutting the roof antenna shorter does not seem to effect radio reception...
But I can't believe they'd put that big remote conrol car looking antenna on every car when only a small number of them actually left the factory with phones... Interesting.

Dealer should look in AESIS for coding....
<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/525/newa6_56_radio.jpg"></center><p>A BOSE Symphony should look like above although I thought 00117 was the typical coding:
0 = Always 0
0 = Always 0
1 = number of passive speakers
1 = Bose sound equalization
7 = Cluster/Display/CD changer config (appears to be a don't care on Symphony).
Does your Symphony display "BOSE" on powerup? If not, it's DEFINITELY miscoded.
Get a VagCom or get the stealer to code it right.
