Default Removing the rear bumper cover

I wanted to remove my 2000 rear bumper cover, so I could save a few bucks when I switch to a 2002 cover by doing the installation myself. I searched the threads for some guidance, but couldn't find anything. The job is straight forward, if you know where to find the bolts and screws. So here are a few pics to help anyone who wants to do this in the future.

There are a total of 15 screws/bolts that need to be removed. Once these are out, the bumper cover can be easily removed.

Inside the trunk, open both of the access panels (one has your CD player and jack in it, and the other has the sub woofer.) You will be able to access 10 of the bolts from these two locations - 5 on each side. You will be able to see 3 of the bolts right away on each side. The other 2 on each side will take a little work to find, and you will probably have to peel back some of the insulation on the passenger side. Here are two pics that show the holes in the body panel, and the corresponding bolts on the bumper cover:

There are also 2 screws located at the back of each rear wheel well that also need to be removed:

Finally, there is one screw directly below the license plate on the bottom of the bumper cover. You will need a hex tool to get this one out.

When you have all 15 bolts/screws removed, snap the bumper out on the sides behind the wheels, and then pull a little from the back of the car. Soon you will be holding the bumper cover in your hands, and your car will look like this:

Default Nice work Keith. This is a prime example of why I love this forum - - knowledge transfer.

I also like your choice of skis; Xscream/Pilots are exactly what I ride.

I'm not even sure - I've had them for probably 15 years and they are pretty crusty, but they are rated to 10,000 lbs.

Yes - except for the screws in the wheel wells and the one on the bottom of the bumper
