How much "dickering" will Audi do on Warrentech?
Yes, I am at the 42K mark on my 2001 and will be buying the "ultimate" coverage but was surprised at the $3261 price tag for 4/48 (up to 100,000 miles). I have done a search on the forum, read the posts from Mohammad, and see $2400 is more the norm price wise. BTW, the $3261 is $50 deductable. Powertrain only was 3/36 for $1900 which I rather not have only that little coverage. Ulitmate 3/36 with $50 deduct was quoted at $2435.
So, do they dicker or should I go to a dealer that will not be doing the repairs and use them as a negotiating point? I am in the Olympic Peninsula and could use either University Audi or Robert Larsen in Tacoma to purchase WarrenTech coverage. Thanks...

I paid $ 2,450 for 5 yr/100,000 mi, Warrentech Warranty.
I had 42k on the car.
And had 1 year 1 year left on the Audi warranty. So I really got a 4yr,50,000 warranty.
$1650 warranty (Ultimate)
$ 600 Penalities for mileage
$ 200 Zero Deductible
Total $ 2450
Included turbo and tranmission.
I really got it for all the electrical stuff. With instrument clusters, radios, sunroof, windows, seats and such, I didnt want to worry about them.
I didnt dicker on it, this was the quoted price from the Audi Dealer

Extended warranties are a Big profit center for dealers....
even though they are insurance products and as such are regulated by the Insurance Commission of each state, there is no regulation on how much they can mark up a warranty.
In a previous business life with my company, we sold extended warranties, though dealers. Our price structure reflected the dealer's cost. Most of the dealers who sold our product(2700 across the country) marked up the price 25-50%.
So I suspect that the 3261 price reflects a healthy profit margin for the dealer. That being said, the finance manager may have little say on price. Many dealer General Managers or owners will set the selling price without giving the finance manager much lattitude to reduce the price.
I would offer them less and begin the negotiation.

A word of caution....
All 4/48 warranties I am familiar with (and competed against) were 4 years/ 48000 miles from the day you purchase the warranty. So in your case, with 42k on the car, the warranty would take you to 90,000 miles, not 100.
disclaimer- I am not familiar with the details of the Warrentech product, but I sugggest you ask that question and get the answer in writing so there are no surprises at 91,000.

Yep, I bought my 4/48 when my S4 had about 2y350d & 49.8k miles on it...
...in order to minimize overlap and maximize the length of my protection under the 4/48 I bought from extendedautowarrantycorp.com

No dickering with Desert Foreign Motors, Rancho Mirage, CA...
Bot Jan 03, <24k miles, 0 ded, Ultimate plan, $2379 for 72mos/100k. Other CA dealers had much higher prices. Have to shop around. If in CA call 760-773-5000. I don't know if they can sell out of state.

As you probably know
the number of companies able to sell in CA is limited. Find out who your credit union uses, and call a Mercury insurance agent for a quote because they write extended warranties.
