Default Most of the suspension has always been aluminum. More was added in '00.

The hood has always been aluminum. The front end of the V8 is aluminum from the firewall forward.

Default Yes, most of the suspension on our '99 certainly is.

Really amazed me when I first took a wheel off and really saw the construction in there for the first time. Pretty nice.

Default New C&D article on the Jaguar XJR quotes the Ford engineers as knocking Audi for...

the "excessively complicated" Aluminum space frame. The new XJR has also gone all aluminum, but in a "more traditional" way which is supposedely lighter as a result.

Default Yes, there was a change publicized in 2002. Not sure how much previously, or if 4.2 always had it.

Light-footed and agile: Running gear

Numerous details of the Audi A6 running gear have also been optimised. Consistent fine tuning that driver and passengers will feel. The tried-and-tested axle concept of the A6 provides the perfect basis for this. Its four-link front suspension with numerous aluminium components and the elaborate design of the rear suspension are a guarantee of first-class comfort and excellent handling, on both front-wheel-drive versions and quattro models.

New additions to the front suspension include a forged aluminium pivot bearing and a weight-reduced lightweight steel wheel hub. These help to reduce the unsprung masses at the front axle by no less than 35 percent, around five kilograms in other words.

https://www.audiworld.com/news/01/a6redesign/content3.shtml</a

Default All of the 0-60 tests on the 4.2 were from 2000-2001.. I wonder if...

with all the changes to the weight the 0-60 times for the 4.2 are any faster now? I havent seen any times on 2002-03..

Default There has been an upgrade to the aluminum control arms

according to the service manager in re my 00 4.2A6Q. Good thing the @#!%#!@ suspension was covered under warranty AND that I had complained about ride/noise/clunking and torn ball joint boot issues before the 3yr/50K ran out on the 39mo lease. Audi covered replacement of the control arms and labor...otherwise about $4K (or so they said).

Default Those cars are put together with rivits and glue. Almost no welding.

Even though a monoque, I can't imagine it being any easier to repair. Ford is hoping to recoup development costs, not create a flagship bar none that can run in the same company as Mercedes, BMW, or Audi. Not to say it isn't a nice car, but it is neither special enough in appearance or performance to appeal to most people who buy cars in that class. They want bragging rights.

The new A8 requires 36,000 nm of force to produce 1 degree of twist. The old A8 and the new Jag have a rating of 22,000.
