Once the bumper was off, decided to do the hella horns - link below for the $61 ones.

Tech mounted the horns to the bumper braket while the bumper was off, and rewired the wiring off the old horns with spade connectors.

sound is much louder, but still euro-tone

Parts - $61
Labor - 1/2 hour
Rating - A solid 6. Better than stock by far, but not a caddy horn

The A6, especially 2002 and later, are really quiet and even some startlingly loud things (like radiator fans and AC pumps) are simply not heard inside the car.

I really like the idea of having a little more bite than the stock horn, but you are right about the Caddy units -- my mom-in-law's are almost Freightliner-like!

A previous car of mine had a Hella air horn. It was rather shrill, but there was no chance of missing it!

Are these new horns of a different form factor that required relocating them, or are they different enough to require a non-stock mounting location?
