I agree, if they are going to drive over parking blocks they should pay for it and not cry over here like little babies.

Default You guys don't understand...

...this is simply lawyer entrepreneurialism in action -- the same sort of thing that makes "instruction" manuals contain more warnings than instructions and so on.

Default This was no "sudden acceleration" debacle, but I'll bet Audi was not going to fight it.

As class actions go, the attorneys here did not make that much (no more than $85,000). I think the outcome was fair. I agree that, if someone rides up over a curb, they deserve whatever predictable damage occurs as they back up. I think the A6 bumper design made the damage far worse than anyone could expect.

Funny how Audi came out with the recall (and added a few other component fixes to the recall) faster than the class action notice came around. We were praising Audi's new focus on customer satisfaction, when in actuality it was just a means to settle a lawsuit!

Default No I understand that. I also understand that there are a lot of people that are happy about it...

becuase they somehow think it's Audi's responsibility to pay for their mistakes.

Default Bull****, it must be nice to be perfect...

I've been driving 30+ years, have driven dozens and dozens of cars, and never, til my A6, have I had a car where so many people have the same thing happen in normal use (bumper covers tearing off), which then happened to me.

It's fine for you glass house dwellers to be so self righteous, but do you know *why* this problem happens? I doubt it: but the explanation clarifies why it happens to so many people who never know when they park, that they're going to tear the bumper cover off when they back out.

Turns out that when the car is shifted into reverse, the torque of the tranny "sits" the front end down lower than when you drive into the space in forward gear. Just enough lower to catch the rear of the bumper cover on the curb. So you park and hear no warning sound when you go over the curb/berm. Only when you shift into reverse to back out does your car hunch down in front and hang up the poorly designed rear edge of the bumper cover.

It's not ****ty driving, it's ****ty design. When are you going to learn that people who design things that fail commonly when used as intended, are responsible for *their* actions?

May your bumper cover be ripped from its moorings as you park it in your self satisfied bubble.

Cheers,
Jon

There is no reason to pull that far over a parking stop (concrete, metal, whatever). End of story.

Far from perfect, but I've never torn my bumper off and I've been parking my car for 2.5 years.
