Aftermarket windshields...question about what kind...or just go with Audi...
The S6 has a cracked windshield...presumably due to a phantom collision with a rock...the faintest hint of a chip is present below the windshield wiper (how the hell did it get there?!?!)...from which a 6 inch crack emerges...
Since I don't believe this is an Audi defect...I will have my insurance cover it...
Are there good windshields out there for Audis?
Too bad this didn't happen to the 4.2 instead...it has the inferior (optically) windshield...the S6 was perfect!!!

Perhaps...but still the angle is very weird...it is below the level of the hood...
under (~1/2-1 inch) the wiper...
Utilizing my handy protractor...I estimated that the projectile must've been coming in at an angle of at least 43 degrees and no more than 68 degrees from horizontal in order to completely miss the hood...yet not whack the wiper (if the wiper was off)...if on, it would still have to come in from a very steep angle (> 43 degrees!)

PPG
Finman, I've had my windshield replaced. It took 2 Audi windshields to get it right, but the one I have now is good. The installer told me that they have problems with PPG windshields, but generally the quality is better than the Audi brand units. The Audi windshields are shipped from Germany, and the man told me that an integrated weather seal is often damaged by the packaging that Audi uses.
Bottom line: Inspect carefully with either brand.

I did an OEM Audi on my rear but...
...maily because I didnt want the defrost effected by another vendors and if it stopped working the excuse it was aftermarket. Granted the responsible partys insurance paid so I went right to the dealer and had it done next day.
