Default "Air Bag" light went on ("resistance too high" says DTC). I see many others had similar troubles...

Today, my air bag warning light went on.

I see many older messages about this, with various apparent causes:

<a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/41969.phtml">Air Bag Lite- controller is problem</a>

At first I thought the light might be due to a harmless glitch, perhaps due to my pulling out the seatbelt to put it on at the same time as accelerating quickly, causing the belt clutch to grab.

But, the VAG-com showed:

1 DTCs Found:
00588 - Airbag Igniter: Driver Side (N95)
32-00 - Resistance too High

After resetting it, the light and DTC came back right away. So, I figure it is either a broken harness wire, a bad sensor, a bad airbag, a bad controller, or bad Car-ma. ;^)

I wonder if the airbag will function nonetheless.

I'll show it to George as soon as I can get an appointment at Anderson-Behel. (heck, I was there 1 minute before the light appeared, buying a battery for my wife's A4. Turns out the newer revision of the Audi battery is more powerful and cheaper now, just $115.)

Default had the same problem recently, and the vag showed it to

be the driver side airbag. took it in the dealer just in case and had them note it down so if i have the problem again it will be easier to get things replaced. btw, they cleared the code and it hasn't come back on.

Had the same problem recently also. The airbag light on my "00 4.2 would stay lit for almost 5 minutes when started for the first time in the morning. After that, the light would blink and would then eventually turn off. The dealer said it was on because it was cold outside! After I stopped yelling at him for making such a stupid comment (hey, it gets cold in Germany too!) they agreed to look at it. One of the sensors was bad!!!
