Traded Twin-com for Hex-com (Ross-Tech's VAG-com interfaces), and like it much better....
This version is their best yet. It has an on-board microprocessor, which enables it to sync almost immediately and very reliably, even if you have other processes running on the computer. It also manages errors such as short circuits better. Works with all the Windows OS versions in use, I believe. Needs a serial interface.
They have a new USB version of the Twin-com now, which works best on Windows XP. Doesn't have the same advantages as the Hex-com.
The Hex-com is very convenient to loan out to friends; you don't have to loan out the laptop with it. This is because the software doesn't need to be "activated" by calling Ross-Tech. Instead, just download the latest beta, plug the Hex-com in, and it works. It acts like a "dongle" or "key" which allows the software to work. Great also if you use multiple computers.
All I want now is a Mac version (or one that works with Virtual PC).
If you locals want to try it, you can arrange to meet me (or any Hex-com owner), and bring along your own laptop, if you like. Just make sure to load the latest beta software.

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/hex-com.html</a

Did you pay the $279 or did you get a cheaper price?
I'm too a registered user with a very old cable, it doesn't say what the "reduced price" will be for registered users.
My girlfriend has a 2002 A4 and I would like to hook up to it.....

My computer had trouble with the Twin-com, plus it needed repair, so I traded up...
You'd have to ask them for an upgrade price, since mine was a special situation.

Mine came in last week and love it.
Seems to synch up much quicker than the older optical ISO interface. I too like the fact that it acts as a dongle or "hard lock" so that I can move it between the notebooks or the workstation in the garage.
