Default my new tips

OK, I did the quick tip upgrade using the OEM tips that audi sells for the 2.7T. My dealer happily ordered them for me for about $80. When I picked them up, they apologized for opening up the box as no one there had ever seen them before.

The install was easy and took minutes. My seven year old son and his friend thought it looked "sweet". Even the wife thought it looked nice (she otherwise rolls her eyes at things automotive).

My opinion, the tips look great at one angle - straight from behind. from the side they look kinda dumb since they curve under the bumper. I also think they stick out too far.

I am still contemplating the Miltek upgrade (straight pipes, under the bumper) vs. having to install the '03 bumper with the magnaflow set up that Dallas2.7T has done.

I'd get my money back. Thru-the-valence is the only way that looks good to me.

Default Re: my new tips

That is what I need to do to my 4.2 2000 but would have to cut a hole in the stupid valence thing. Why did Audi choose to ruin what would be a great rear end?

Default Keep your pride in the clean *** of the pre '02 models!

I like the exposed pipes, but think the pre '02's are pretty special too. Frankly, it's very quickly become a bit too trendy to have the dual exposed pipes - EVERYONE has 'em these days!

Default I'm still getting used to my (shorter) tips...

They work OK on the 4.2, because of the larger valence that extends rearward a bit. There is a cutout for each exhaust but the stock tips don't extend past the cutout. These are the A8 tips, and I used extra-long set screws and some hose clamps to get them to fit firmly at this angle. I still think they are too long, but haven't tried taking them out and cutting off a half inch at a time.

Default Yes, my S6 has 'through-the-valence' tips, and that's cool, but I still liked the more subtle...

...dual tips on my 2000 A6 Avant, that didn't cut through the bumper. I personally thought the old look was cleaner and more refined. Like you say, 'everyone has exposed tips these days'.
