Default Cold Starts on 4.2

I have a 00 A6 4.2 and have had problems recently and rather consistently with starting my car in the morning. It sputters and the idle is very shaky and often takes up to 2 minutes to warm up before i can reverse out of my garage. This started off when the temp dropped to about 30, however it is rarely less than 40 in my garage. NOw i have the problem every morning, anybody else out there experiencing this problem. Local dealer has not been able to resolve, only offered possible source as bad fuel, altitudue or highly sensitive computer monitoring system. I have already had the sensor replaced once. Any thoughts out there? Seems awfully finicky for such an otherwise outstanding car.
thanks for your insights

Default "the sensor" ?

Do you mean the <a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/35771.phtml">coolant temp. sensor</a>?

Default My fix

Had something like this on mine last year--a 6/99 build 2000. Under the large black intake manifold cover I found a vacuum hose that had shrunk in length and pulled off the device--it runs from the front right of the motor along the fuel rail to a valve above the #8 cylinder where it had detached. Five minutes and a piece of vacuum hose and it was cured.

What did the dealer try? I had a similar problem and it was a bad sparkplug.

you and i have the same exact car and problem. I have had the coolant sensor replaced once, but now the problem is back, and at even warmer temps, up to 50 degrees. i will talk to my service tech again and post anything worthwhile

If you battery is more than 2 years old it may be about to die, have it checked for holding charge, had hard starting but ran fine once started. With new battery runs fine.
