Wiper Blades

agreed-it could be contaminant on the blades
As long as you are sure that the rubber is in good shape and not fatigued, it is probably a contaiminant on the rubber. Clean it off as described, that will probably do the trick.

I've given up...
...on the Bosch (rubber) inserts because my blades are about 21 1/2" and inserts that size are impossible to find.
What I've been doing is treating the inserts as disposable and getting new 22" Anco (narrow) ones whenever they stop working (the Ancos are cheap and available at the parts chain stores). It's pretty easy to trim off the extra half-inch or so. HPH

Re: Wiper Blades
I've had problems with the wiper blades on my '01 since I got the car. My dealer has replaced the blades several times but they still leave a film behind as they wipe and make more noise than they should on a car of this quality. I'm about ready to try after market even though the dealer, naturally, doesn't recommend it.

Re: Wiper Blades
Actually, there is a source of wiper blades: your friendly neighborhood K-Mart. They stock the Penske product which comes in a 7 mm (N for narrow) blade width. I have an A6 and an A4, so I use the 22" version (OK for the A6) and cut it down for the A4. You won't get the correct length by using the next size down. The Penske uses the same dimension stainless spines that Audi's use, however, you can simply remove them and insert the original Audi's, because you want the exact length and also you want to retain the curved passenger side blade. The Penske's spines are straight, like the Audi driver's side. Save the Penske plastic retainers for temporary re-use when holding the re-assembled blade together, then keep for future use -the more clips the merrier. I won't say the Penske rubber quality is necessarily as good, but at 5 or 6 bucks a pair, who can complain.
Hope this saves you a bundle!

What do you use to wash the windows? And, do you wash the wiper blades too?
Mine are quiet and fairly effective, except for that second-long fog it leaves behind with each wipe. I use Audi's own washer fluid in the reservoir and Audi's spay fluid to clean them (or an equivalent).
Use any other products? I wouldn't trust products like Rain-X without reading up on it very carefully.
