Default There are some connections behind the mirror for power...

I assume you can disconnect those.
Although, I guess those could be for the mirror heater, not really sure.

Default If you snap off the plastic cover on the inside central mirror mount (the part that comes down from

the headliner) you will find a wire bundle with a connector. If you unplug it, auto dimming of all three mirrors ceases. For 2002 and later, you also lose the compass. Since the central interior mirror has the sensors for auto dim, there should be one or two wires in that bundle you could cut and eliminate the outside mirror dimming only.

However, whether that would leave the outside mirrors on full dim or un-dim depends on the open circuit behavior of that system. You may need to tie the cut wire(s) to ground or the high logic level. Consulting the wiring diagrams in the Bentley manual should indicate the wires to cut and might even answer the additional questions.

Default I recall reading about people putting a drop or two of clear nail polish on the sensor

on the back of the interior mirror to reduce the dimming effect. I believe this would affect all mirrors.

Default Turn on the lights...

...the interior front map lights that is. IIRC, a number of folks pulled their driver's side map light bulb and left the switch on to accomplish this.

Of course that shuts off auto-dimming for the rearview too....

Default Small piece of black electrical tape over the sensor

on the rearview mirror. I did this almost immediately because I HATED the autodimming, and it worked just fine. The mirrors got so dim I had trouble seeing cars following me at night, and changing lanes was an adventure.
