4.2 upgrade list _What do you think?
1) Supersprint Exhaust
2) Eibach springs (street or race)
3) pilot sports on stock 5 spoke rims
4) brembo discs and upgraded pads
5) cold air intake --possibly from LLtek?
I wasn't going to chip it, not enough gain for the money-Thanks for your input

The exhaust is "enough gain for the money"???
Judging from my drive of Sleestack's 4.2, the absolute first things I'd do to my 4.2 is put the GIAC engine and tip chip in ($1000), much improved throttle response and much cleaner, crisper (and intuitive) shifts...not sloppy like it sometimes is. The second thing I'd do is the H&R coilovers with ~1 inch lowering...much stiffer, yet still not harsh, with much less pitch and dive, and even less body roll (which the 4.2 does a good job at controlling anyway)...$2000 installed.
The next thing I'd do is change tires...$1000.
The next would be brakes, either StopTech $2500, or a variety of others...Brembo, Alcon...etc. $3500-4000.
Personally, I'd never do the exhaust...I don't think it is worth the money and I like the stock sound, or lack thereof...but that's just I, a lot of other people like their aftermarket exhausts.

Re: 4.2 upgrade list
1. Why not, but do a search for other's impressions of how their 4.2 exhaust upgrade sounds (some didn't like the extra resonnance).
2. Don't do this without a matching set up shocks.
3. I like Michelins
4. Sounds good (out of warrantee?)
5. Check out André's (from Capetown) experience with a custom intake and chip tuning. You might also check out Wetterauer, which promise a fairly significant upgrade in torque for the 4.2

Don't be a wuss. Say it straight out! ;-)
We ought to have a way to identify posts that are just someone's opinion vs an educated guess vs the voice of experience. In your case, there's no doubt about it.

Just my opinion?
I, personally, haven't done any of the mods I commented on...for one reason...I don't believe I will still have my 4.2 8 months from now...
If I was earlier in my ownership now, I'd definitely do the chips and coilovers.
Further down my list is the tires...I don't find the Contis that bad for 98% of my driving. Should be higher on the list, but got 'ranked' lower because of cost, are the brakes...not that the stock brakes don't work...but they do fade on heavy use and they look like a*s! (I'm quite vain
The exhaust stuff just doesn't interest me much...even though there have been some really nice ones done here...for me it sorta' seems a little like having gold pipes under your house (sewage or water, whichever ...nice pipes that you can't see...there is likely very little power advantage without doing a major exhaust overhaul including downpipes and the like...and I don't dig a loud exhaust note anyway...
But... a lot of people like their exhaust and if it is important to them, I am not discounting its value at all...seriously.

Are you upgrading for the novelty or for function?
For road and street, I'd upgrade the tires, but I wouldn't get a hard-riding tire. The brakes are fine for the street.
For the track, I'd upgrade to S-03, Pilot Sport or similar tires and I'd get better brakes and would a add five-point harness for the driver's seat.
The engine is strong enough, even for the track.
After driving 9000 miles on S-03 tires, I wouldn't buy them again for street use because the A6 4.2 chassis, the suspension of which needs more compliance, seems best on a softer riding tire, such as Michelin Pilot A/S or Yokohama AVS dB. The S-03 tire is superb, except for the ride, not to mention a short life.
