Let's face it, if your fuel system got gummed up by bad gas, would you just...
... shrug it off and pay for the fix out of your pocket?
Class actions are mostly lawyer-motivated BS, but the alternative is to empower your governments to act as commerce police to address these wrongs. The FTC and state attorneys general play this role to an extent, but I'm not sure we want to turn them loose on every consumer complaint --real and imagined. A middle ground would be nice.

Was/is a class action in Canada, no idea what happened. Texaco is switching 2 Shell up here. :-(
My whole gas buying life is in turmoil now. Maybe I can sue Shell. Just kidding.

actual reparations have nothing to do with class actions
Class actions are bunk. Any time you get real reparations it is due to massive capitulations on the part of the manufacturer. For example, in Audis case they already announced a recall before the class action.
