Default Navigation Pictures

Finally got around to posting my Nav. installation. Jate thanks for taking the pictures. To make the long story short, i decided to get Pioneer setup instead of doing the Nav. Plus install. in my opinion this has more features and costs less. 1 DVD covers USA and Canada and from my use its very accurate.

I had the dvd player installed in my glove box. install came out very clean and i still have room in there.

I decided to keep my HU and opted for removable screen. here is picutre of the holder

Here is a picture of the screen on the holder.

I also integrated the nav and dvd into my HU. when Navigation part speaks it mutes the radio and uses screen's speaker to output the audio. when i watch DVDs sound is going through CDC interface with Blitzsafe adapter.

Default Re: very nice! how is the screen holder installed? is it bolted on there?

We took the center vents out and the holder is bolted with 2 bolts inside the center vents. screen doesn't rotate since its bolted. but it can be installed at an angle.

Default Outstanding...looks excellent...

now the goal would be to create a modified holder that can click into place, yet remain rotatable...

Very nice...how well does it work?

Default works like a charm

I used it mainly on the east coast and it got me to places which few people know exist. I play paintball alot and those fields are usually in far away places. This Nav. took me there without any problems. couple of features that i like is:

1) disc for US and Canada
2) Fast calculation of route
3) search. you can search by address, vicinity, phone number. database is over 20 million entries.
4) ones u have the address it gives you 6 ways of getting there. (fastest, shortest, avoid freeways and combination of these). it also shows you on the map routes that it came up with.
Its very accuarate, because of the 3d hybrid mode. it knows when ur car is turning and going back.

In terms of rotating the holder, i guess i can get a rotatable plate which will attach to the vents in the car and somehow figure out how to attach this plate to it. plate has the connector for the screen in it so its not easily replaced. or another thing would be to separate the connector from the holder and install it on the different holder. its doable. you can go as far as putting it on motorized lift and actually have it come out from the top of the center part right after the vents. there is probably room in there to hide the screen. i guess its up to the imagination and work of the person doing it.

Default Total was $1500 with installation

I picked up AVIC9DVD and 6.5" screen on ebay. got it for $1350 shipped from one guy. it was brand new. Paid $150 to get it installed. installer was a friend of mine, hence the small charge. He did an excellent job of installing this. It took 2 days to finish. We had problems finding connectors in the car. but now he can probably do it in about 5 hours. then i called Pioneer and got them to send me updated map DVD free of charge.

Default a big LCD screen like that sticking out of the vents doesn't look 'clunky' to anyone else?

Personally, I would much prefer one installed in the dash. Even with the screen off, you have this bracket sticking out of your vent - not for me, I guess...

Default looks like what most people in Japan have in their cars... yeah its clunky, but it works...

then again, most of those cars were van types.. so it didn't really matter what the install looked like...
