Default Brakes: car jerks to a stop

I took my car in yesterday to have my brakes checked because the car "jerks" to a stop especially with high speeds. They stated that they re-glazed the brakes(whatever that means) and the technician checked it out and said it is working normally. As I was driving home the same problem occurred and it was very noticable to the other occupants. It was not a smooth stop. Anyone have any ideas. Should the rotors or pads be replaced. The tires are in good shape.

Default Is this the same as what I experienced?...

When I brake from high speed, such as getting off the freeway near home, the brakes naturally get hot. If I sit at a signal with my foot on the brake, I get a hotspot. Then I drive down the block and brake again, at which point the car shudders at high speed, and at low speed, the brakes slip-and-grip, once per tire rotation, causing my passengers head to bob forward and back. After the brakes cool, it gets better but isn't gone.

This is a description of my brakes about 3 months ago. The problem is that the rotors on the A6 (at least the HP-2 brakes) don't cool very effectively. They then warp, something which is worse when they are hot, worse still if they have a hotspot from sitting still on hot brakes.

After having rotors replaced (the ONLY thing that cures it), I broke in the brakes using a procedure from StopTech's upgrading article. Then, I religiously avoided sitting on hot brakes. This is a pain, having to go into N or P at signals.

Note: don't let the dealer do anything but replace the rotors (and pads, I assume). They know that the rotors have had a problem with warping, but they may think the recent parts are better... they aren't, at least not by much.

If it happens again, even if in warranty, I'll buy some replacement rotors from BIRA, which cool more effectively.

There are links to all aspects of this problem in my FAQ, brakes section:

http://www.netwiz.net/~jds/files/a6_links.html#brakes</a

Default "REglazed"? I think you don't want them glazed.

Maybe deglazed? Anyway, didn't think you could do that other than to 'turn' the rotors. Sounds like it's time to replace the rotors. Are you under warranty? How many miles?

If the jerking in progressively slower as speed decreases.. probably warped rotors.

Your rotors are warped. Check for melted pad material on or rotors.
