Aldous...your stoptech brake noise problem...
I posted on the S4 forum and mentioned your problem regarding the "clunking and clattering" coming from your brakes. They replied that it may be either the pads rattling or "floating hats" (whatever that is). Did you look into this? The S4 owners which replied to my comments for the most part had good things to say about their installation. You may want to post your specific stoptech comments on the S4 board and see what they recommend.

Re: Aldous...your stoptech brake noise problem...
When I first got the stoptechs, I would out the car in reverse back out of the driveway, brake, then put into drive rool forward some , brake and you could hear a clunk from the brakes. Put into Reverse , hit the brakes and clunk.
turns out that the pads were moving some. Nothing to diminish the performance but annoying.
I went to Stoptech and they ended up prying "up" the metal tab that sits at the bottom where the pads rests. This tightened the pad and the clunk went away. It seems to be a temp fix , since I would think after some hard braking and such the metal clip will go back to where it was originally..??? THe hats were fine , had a nice snug fit.
THis was with Pagid Blues, and the Axxis Ultimates were more loose than the blues. Just a thought.

Yes, it's the absence of the tabs, I guess, that sort of hold the pads from moving around in the...
caliper. There is some kind of sticky resin material for brakes I've heard you can spread on the backs of the pads, but I guess it's only a temporary fix (and sounds like a good way to make a mess of the calipers to me). With the heat and constant on/off pressures that brakes sustain, I can't envision any afterthought add-on clip or adhesive holding up.
