Default 0 to 60 Times - The delays of a manual transmission??

I just got my VAG-Com working, and I figured I would check out my zero to 60 time by logging the RPM and MPH (actually kilometers per hour converted to MPH). Here is a plot of a randomly selected run on a level surface. <img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/28004/0_to_60.jpg" border="0"> After obtaining the data, I imported it into MS Excel and plotted this graph, after converting KPH to MPH by dividing the KPH by 1.609.

It appears as if my 0 to 60 time is around 6.6 (as compared to the Audi advertised time of 6.0 for the 2.7T w/6 speed.) The data sampling rate is about one data sample every 0.4 seconds. That is why the RPMs in the first to second gear shift looks flat instead of having a pointed peak.

Of course, I don't shift as fast as a professional driver who generated the 6.0 time for Audi. However, from the looks of the graphs, (and the unplotted measurment of throttle position) I am completely off of the accelerator for about 0.2 seconds during each of the two shifts. In looking at the graph, I shifted from second to third somewhere around 58 mph. If I would have taken it right to 7000 rpms and did not shift until I hit 60 mph, I'd drop my time about 0.2 seconds. (I wasn't in the mood to slam the RPMs into the rev limiter.)

Also, the mph right at the start looks a little strange due to the capture of the logged parameters only every 0.4 seconds, and my poor attempt to manually correct the data at the very start due to the slow sampling rate.

Anyway, can someone confirm that in order to improve my time, I really need to stay on the throttle through the shifts, or provide comments or suggestions.

Default There may be a 0-60 Tip advantage with the recode....

I leave it in "D" and just go WOT. The recode holds 1st to redline and the redline autoshift happens in every gear. I can't imagine a person consistantly hitting shifts as crisp in a shorter interval. I have to check out gearing ratios and HP/weight differences, but straight line drags seem pretty quick with 1st gear being fully optimized.

Default Cool stuff!

It looks ot me as if you need to wait to shift 1-2 a little longer. Shouldn't it have been to 6500 or so? Then you probably could have gone closer to 60 before you shifted. Otherwise

Default I did shift around 6800 RPM

Thanks for the comment. The problem is that the sampling rate is only 0.4 seconds, meaning the laptop computer did not capture any data when I was at peak RPMs. If you want a reasonable guess at which RPMs I shifted, pretend the tip of the RPM peak was not cut off (e.g., draw it in).

Default I figured it was a sampling issue

I do not think holding the throttle open will improve your time. Like in bracket drag racing, a automatic trans may approach the best time more conistently as there is less variation. I think just faster shifting and the launch my be the difference between you and 6.0

Default You could break 6 seconds easily if you do a huge launch and mash gears...

but what's the point? : )
