Default Little Mod Question For The Day

I was at the dealer this morning and noticed the new W8 Passat in silver and a nice S6 Avant in Black. Both had cool looking clear side markers with the silver bulb cover. Anyone know if they are the same as the 98A6 and if they will fit. Dealer only wants $12/ea for them but its a special order only which means I have to pay for them weather they fit or not. They look the same size and since both the W8 and the S6 had the identical cover and silver I imagine they might work on my 98 but just wanted to check the forum first befre I waste my time and $24. Thanks to all.

Default I've got a pair to install myself, they require the mounting hole to be enlarged

Use a nibbler tool readily available at an auto parts store, or even radio shack, cut out a thin cardboard template of the back of the light and trace it to the body. cut out the body and use some touch up paint to seal it so it doesn't rust, install the light. The bulb and harness fits fine. Not too hard if you dont' mind cutting your fender 1/4" or so on each side of the marker light hole. I think they look a ton better than the ribbed style that my 99 came with.

Default Re: Little Mod Question For The Day

i heard that they were not plug and play...that you have to cut some of the fender a bit to make them fit.

Default Don't get those... they don't fit. Hole is much larger in 2002. Buy aftermarket...

Default Just so I know we are on the same page here...

This was the best image I could pull. <img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/17361/02_signals_1.jpg"> This is what I am looking for. Looks like this S4 received the same treatment as you recommend. Will you be using a Dremmel Tool and is this the clear marker you received from your order? Much thanks.

Default Why risk screwing up when there are aftermarket ones that fit already?

The part snaps in place. If you get the size wrong, or the shape of the lip, you are out of luck.

Default Haven't bought myself, but may. See urls above.

To see the hole on a 2002, just go to the dealership and bring a credit card to pop off one from a car on the lot. :^) IIRC, I think there is a spring clip on one end of the lamp that the card can push inward and release easily. That is how I convinced myself not to get the stock 2002 part. FWIW.

Default I was at the dealership this morning all by myself (he he he)...

... he he he :E

"Hey, where did the S6 grille badge, Audi logo valve stem caps and that full size RS4 spare go"? said the sales manager. "Probably with the crystal clear side markers on that W8!" said the sales rep before he was fired for leaving the sales door unlocked.

I was all alone after dropping my car off for service this morning. I poped the hood of the S6 to take a close look at how the grille attaches and did the same to the new A4 Turbo so's I could see what was under that hood. I didnt take anything but I could have (including the display case contents). I think the door to the sales floor was supposed to be locked but I just walked in and played with the TT with 18" RS4 wheels and the S6 Avant and 02' A4 1.8T for about 15 minutes before I kindly let myslef out.

When I pick it up after work, I will pop off the side marker on the black S6 Avant and the Silver Passat W8 and measure them then.

Thanks again no.radar
