a6 front bumpers suck

Re: a6 front bumpers suck
I pick up my 2000 A6 tomorrow. The dealer, Hoffman Audi in East Hartford, Connecticut, installed a skid plate under the front bumper. As far as I know, the kit came from the parts department and was free, however they did charge me to install it. They tell me it can't be seen unless the car is up on a lift.
I did this because I did the same as you 3 times with my '99 A6. As careful as I thought I was, I wasn't careful enough.

My friend's mom got Audi to pay to fix hers...
She did the same thing - pulled up too far and ripped the front bumper off. She actually got Audi to pay for it! She argued that the bumper came off because of a design flaw on Audi's part!
Park carefully. Good luck!

I agree with this comment
There have been enough warnings on this forum for a very long time, advising that the air dam is seated too low. It is, unfortunately, a very expensive fix-from what I understand, once the air dam is pulled off the upper bumper, it's mounts crack and the piece is then scrap. Short park the car, don't drive it in all the way. Just make that the rule, and you will avoid disaster.

Labor is 4-6 hours....maybe 5 or 5.5 is the norm....not cheap.
Unless your mechanic is familiar with Audis, it's not easy to get to the timing belt, tensioner and water pump.
I stick with the dealer for this service.

sound like it is your parking skills that "suck"
just kidding. we have all been there. I pulled the front valence off on my A4 backing up out of a parking space. have scraped the bottom of my A6 front bumper several times.
yeah, there is no question that the car has very low clearance. you have to be very careful.
keep in mind that the car is built in europe and hey probably don't have those stupid concrete things there.

Re: Want my bumper...
If all the mounting hardware/brackets are in good shape, it could be a possibility. I think my shop can paint the thing. I just sent a ton of inquiries out for quotes on new bumpers. How much does your new one cost?
