Called the local audi dealer. They have extended warranties written by Warrantech. They have bumper to bumper coverage, will replace a worn part before it fails, can get $0 deductible, 5yr/100,000, fully transferable to a new owner, covers Turbos&tranny. Since I like my service rep and the tech at the Audi dealer, seems to work out nicely. Will go and hear about the final details, but seems to be not bad at all.
Cost for the 5 yr plan is $1700 plus $200 for the $0 deductible so $1900,,,but since I have so many miles on the car right now, I get to pay an added penalty of $600 smackers so my cost is $2500. WIll find out where else I can get service from.

If it is to a total of 100,000 it seems strange that you'd hafta' pay more. Either way, it sounds like a good deal. I'm getting one if I keep this car beyond 50k.

1. does the 5 yr period begin with the warranty contract date or the in-service date,ie, orig purch date of your car;
2 $600 penalty is for miles in excess of ?????
3. any refund features,eg, sale of car or NO claims filed.
4. what dealer in case its not available ay my SoCal dealer.

ie, 5 yrs from contract signing or 5 yrs from purchase date. For example, with some contacts, a 2 yr old car would have 3yrs coverage going forward NOT 5 yrs.

he is being penalized for how many miles he already has on it...that would seem odd, since that would actually diminish the number of miles they are actually covering (100,000 - X). If X is high, covered miles are low...so why punish with more cost...should be cheaper, actually.

I have heard of some that a) are 100,000 more miles, or b) up to 150,000 total miles...they were all in the $2k-$3k range.

Similar to life or medical insurance. The further along you are = higher premiums for higher risk.

If he has 70k on it and it goes until 100k...they are gonna cover only 70k to 100k. If he has 50k on it, they cover 50k to 100k, which is still inclusive of 70-100k, those supposed higher probability miles...but if he has lower mileage they are responsible for both the higher risk time and lower risk time.
Of course if the five years is from the time of the initial car purchase, that would be different, but that would be a waste of money unless it is for those people who put 20k on their car every year and will reack 100k by 5 years...which may well be the case. If those people drive 15k per year, the insurance will only be covering from 50k to 75k, thusly being cheaper than the one who already has 50 or 60k on it, but has enough years to reach that 100k limit.

Basically, yes, when does the 5 years start is key...and how likely is it that you can achieve 100k before this 5 year time period is up.

I'm pretty concerned about my Tiptronic going south after the 36 mo. warranty expires. Since I usually keep cars several yrs and have relatively low annual mileage, the possibilty of a $10k+ repair is a very real concern to me. Others might say set the money aside in a fund, ie, self-insurance. PS: a couple of programs (Continentalwarranty.com) I looked at in past had a 100% refund feature if you didn't file any claims. This sounds like a WIN-WIN in that they get the use of your money, your covered against a big hit, and you get your money back (at the "end" of the contract). Others on the AW Forums have mentioned these w/o specifics as to how they "finally" worked out.

I chose the 5yr/100,000 plan. That is a total amount of miles, so if you have 20k you are covered till 100k , not 120k.
Transferable to a new owner of the car
Can be cancelled at any time
Chose $0 deductible
Any Audi approved service center can work on the car.
Company pays with a credit card, so no costs out of pocket, then reimbursed.
The 5 years starts from today and goes 5 years.
So in my case since I have 40k miles in 2 years, I will continue to be under the Audi waranty till 50k miles or the 3 years is up. Then the warrantech warranty takes over. SO I guess I am really paying for a 4 year/50,000 warranty.
They do replace worn parts before they fail. Turbo's/tranny covered.
