Default "jerky" transmission

2001 A6 2.7T , 4500 miles

Anyone have any advice on the following problems that I am having:

1. When coming to a stop, there seems to be a "thump" that the transmission makes ?
2. When stepping on the gas from a dead stop, the transmission seems to "jerk" like it is slipping then it seems to kick in ? It is not smooth.

Default Take to dealer. Can be two types of problems... (updated with links)

One is mechanical, a valve inside the transmission. See A6 2000-2001 Tip problem details: jerk, lag and an earlier message A6 Tip thud problem discussion.

The other can be solved by updating the software on the Tip, available for 2001 A6 2.7T only. See https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/114652.phtml.
