What's the best way to manually clean direct injection fuel injectors?

I will have the fuel injectors out and was wondering if there is a way to manually clean them? Maybe soak the ends in one of those fuel injector additives or something?

Bring them to a place that can clean them. I would of just put additives into the fuel tank to clean them over taking them out.

How did you go with cleaning the fuel injectors? I had one of mine taken out, but I'm finding difficultly with reinstalling it. It seems like it wouldn't fit securely. It took a lot force to take it out originally. Is there a rubber or seal that I need to install between the injector and engine head block? See picture.

Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks.
