This thread seems like a joke. Some people on here are using this e-brake way too much. Use it on a hill that's it. At everystop light are you kidding, that'll likely mess up the ebrake then. I'm sure if our cars needed you to use your ebrake at these frequent intervals Audi would have told you in the drivers manual. They don't so the car is designed to not have to use this. Ask anyone if they've had any transmission problems that may have been caused by not using your e brake. I'm pretty sure the number will be ZERO. Ridiculous.

As april posted, it probably is better to save the transmission, but in real world experience does it really save your transmission?

The Owner's manual states:

When you park your vehicle, do the following:

- Stop the vehicle using the brake pedal.

- Pull the switch to spply the electromechanical parking brake.

- Move the selector level into the P position.

- Switch off the engine and remove the key from the ignition lock.

That seems to make the case from Audi pretty clear.

I've used my parking brake less than 5 times in 80,000 miles.

and that one other time we won't talk about.

As do I. It seems we have two different camps here. I guess I want to side with the operator's manual and the info April has provided. It seems however that we haven't heard of issues due to over use no have we heard of issues related to not using it. ...as a side benefit, it does sound pretty cool engaging and lets the car be more graceful as the foot is removed from the standard brake.

True, Shows you I've never read my manual yet still know almost everything about this car. I'll still never use it unless on a hill. I've never had problems, so why start now. I lease by the way so I flip cars every couple of years.
