Default Transmission Rebuild

Hi All!

I am sorry to say that my 05 4.2 A6 is in need of a transmission rebuild. One shop has had my car for over a month now and has attempted to rebuild the transmission 3 times. I think it might be time to have someone else take a look at the car. The place I took it to is pretty reputable but they just can't put it back together properly for some reason.

Does anyone know of a reputable transmission repair shop in central NJ?

FYI...if anyone wants to know, a transmission rebuild on this car is almost $6K. I found a few places for cheaper, but were pretty shady and didn't want to take the chance.

I was almost about to get rid of the car, but don't want to drive anything else right now. I test drove an 08 535xi and it just didn't compare (drive and looks). Hopefully I can get this car fixed correctly till I can either pick up a CPO A8 or a CPO 5 series (newest models of coarse).

Sorry to hear that. If you don't mind answering a few questions,I have an 05 3.2 and have been toying with the idea of having the tranny fluid changes. Did you have any indication that your transmission was going out? How many miles on the car? Did you ever have the transmission fluid changed?

Can I ask how many miles you have and why you need to rebuild(what symptoms) your tranmission.

As for finding a reputable transmission shop. Did you try to contact a dealership to see if they have anybody they recommend? Have you tried Cottman, Jasper or any other "claimed transmission specialist"? I am from Jersey and I used Princton & Flemington Audi for service in the past. I probably would have called them to see if they use a another shop that do out of spec work for there techs.

I am in the same exact situation, 05 4.2 I took mine to AAMCO recommended by Audi , they couldn't even scan it lol.... So i googled , found Lee Myles transmission , they have a huge shop , contracts with nypd, sufflock county pd , schools etcccc, they build them there....she gave me a tour guide lolbig shop, they have mulipleee

I am waiting for my warranty co to go and te drive the car for repairs..... And rebuilding cost almost $6 k , the dealer qutoed $5 k for parts... But the warranty only pays for rebuilds ....

Secular, take it easy with the fluid change, if u use the blue fluid, the control module update is madatoryyyy....

Give Level 10 a call.

I know they are a performance transmission shop, but I believe they do stock rebuilds also. They were the transmission re-builder of choice for modified B5 S4's back in the day.

It looks like the myth of lifetime ATF is taking a beating in is thread. While Audi may believe in lifetime ATF, tthe transmission's manufacturer says that it should be changed every 50-60K

With all due respect, I cannot make out from the previous post. Whether they have to rebuild transmission because they did not change fluid or because they did change the fluid. Or because they changed fluid with the wrong one or by the wrong people. Or another factor.

We need get to the bottom of it.

It is discussed in the tranny TSB. You can find it in the TSB library linked in my signature.
