One important step is missing: take out the snow screen from the air intake and clean film of the dirt from it. I think this step alone can fix the problem in many cars with hight miles. I measured the airflow before and after the screen was cleaned. it improved by 20%.

Thank you guys. I got the similar situation today but on top, I got cylinder 2 misfire. Can this all be tied one to another?

Unless you have some serious carbon issue where carbon lamps burn in cylinders and set gas on fire, I doubt this two related.
I would treat them separately.
1. I would clean the snow screen (it takes 15 minutes and definitely should be done)
2. put good quality gas
3. replace the spark plug and check ignition coil (btw there is a recall for the ignition coils - check for that).
4. clear codes and try it for some time. If P0068 comes back - clean throttle body. If misfire come back - check the crank position sensor as well.

Thank you.

1. What is the location of snow screen? I did previously replace the air filter.

2. Use shell
3. Did change spark plugs at 8k ago (did not change coil packs)
4. Could you please explain more on crank position sensor?

I only cleaned the snow screen and throttle body. Is it necessary to also clean the electronic module? Thanks!

Default P0068 in 2009 Audie A4

Hey Guys, Super newbie here in the world of DIY. Could use your help: In my Audi A4 3.2, CIL comes up randomly and then it turns off randomly as well. It typically comes on at the time of start of the car and stays on during driving but then it turns OFF sometimes by the time I turn on the car next day.

No issue while driving at all.

Any idea what these symptoms suggest?

Also can somebody point me to a link to remove and clean throttle body(possibly with pictures) for my car model, the DIY video link on this thread showed some part I don't see in my car?

Also what exactly do i need to erase the codes and recalibrate the throttle body (do i need two separate hardware items or one hardware does both).I looked up on Amazon but couldn't figure out which one works for A4 3.2.

Thanks in advance for helping.

Since you have a 2009 A4, you should post a new thread on the applicable A4 forum (I think you have a B7 platform) for more responses. The engine layout (and possibly the ECM) in your A4 is probably quite different than the C6 A6 platform. But here is what the Bentley Repair Manual states for P0068:

Intake Air Temperature Sensor

Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor G42 , checking

Intake System

Checking intake system for leaks (false air)
Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor 2 G512 , checking
Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor G336 , checking
