The auto wipers drive me insane. I'm constantly playing with the stalk because they will start going at full speed when not needed.

I bought them from ECSTuning.com

I have an '08, and they do eventually start again by themselves when in Auto mode without me touching them. I'm not sure what the triggers are.

Default Worthless Wipers?

I agree, wipers are irritating, hopefully Audi engineers are listening to these complaints.
1. Wiper fast setting is too slow for a driving rain.
2. Rain sensor setting is useless, it flat out doesn't work as designed. For some reason setting functions somewhat 'less uselessly' in the dark.
BTW it took three trips to the Audi dealer to obtain front and rear wipers for my '06 Avant. First visit I was sold wipers for an A4. Second visit returned those only to discover the dealer had one front A6 wiper in stock - you'd think wipers are purchased then sold in pairs. The rear wiper had to be ordered. Third visit picked up all wipers during a scheduled service. Next time I'll take the wiper business on line instead.

My theory is there's a speed element, that even with rain on the windshield auto wipe doesn't kick in until you exceed 10MPH (or similar). I resort to a temporarily changing the sensitivity setting (either up then back down, visa versa) as that triggers an immediate wipe.
