Default Stereo Cutting Out (Head Unit)

I'm having a lot of problems with my head unit (stereo system). Every 30 seconds, it cuts out. This happens with: AM, FM, Satellite Radio, CD player. As well, since this problem started happening, I have not been able to connect my phone to the Bluetooth system. My car is a 2005 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro.

See attachment for a short video showing the problem.

Has anyone seen this problem before? Anyone know of the solution?

Thank you in advance for your help!

- Dylan

Your amp might be over heating.

Where is the amp located on the sedans? Also, how could I tell if it's in fact overheating?

The amp should be located at the back trunk left side. Depending on the year the amp is normally on top of the rack. You'll see a big heat sink. To test if your amp is over heating put your hand on top of the heat sink while you have your radio going. Normal amp temp should be warm to the touch but if it's hotter your amp is going out.

Just the opposite here. Two C6's - one an Avant the other a Sedan and with both, I'll be driving along and the radio will pop on of its own accord. The only thing common to both is my cell phone connected to bluetooth and I'm wondering if something in the phone is causing it. Never happens to anyone else driving the cars. Just too much coincidence.

My money is on a MOST bus issue.
  1. Get VCDS Cable
  2. Run MOST loop test function
  3. Look for electrical and data issues
  4. If you find an issue, get a MOST bus loop and try putting it in place of varying components in the trunk (esp. satellite radio)
