I tried it out today. It worked quite well.

It was about 35F here today and I had to run to the warehouse for a bit. It's about a 15 minute drive and the car was fully warmed up with the heat on. I stopped for about 25 minutes for lunch without using the function then went to the warehouse a few miles away and I was inside for another 25 minutes with the residual heat function on and came out to a significantly warmer interior than when I had not used the function. Thanks again to KevinGary for pointing it out.
