S6 - brake pad wear indicator lighting up
Checking in with other S6 owners out there. The brake pad wear indicator just lit up on my dash. Car only has ~18K miles.
Any other S6 owners out there that have changed their pads already due to wear already? At what mileage?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the responses guys. I checked the brakes myself tonite. Mileage on my S6 is ~19K in mostly city driving. Rear pads are at 3mm and fronts are about 5mm.
Can you guys give me an idea of what the dealer will charge? I'm thinking front pads/rotors, rear pads only.
If I get off of my lazy ****, then I can do the fronts myself, but I don't know how to deal with the parking brake/rear set up.
Thanks again.

If you go the dealer route, it will cost you $500-900 depending on the shop and what they replace. There are many indepandant shops (Audi specialist) that would do this work for half the money. I was quoted $550-650 for rear pads and rotor on my 3.2, got it done for $240.
On the Rears, research the forum before you take that on. You need a VAG-tool to release the parking brake. Others have jumped in both feet without seeing what it entails and a 2 hour job ruins your day/week.

yea, mine got eaten up by city driving, too.
somewhat shamed by the pricing spence341's quoting , I'll admit I paid somewhere between $1100-1300 @ an independent, for rotors+pads all around.
IIRC, parts for the front were significantly more expensive than the rear half...perhaps the front rotors+pads are S6-specific, while rears are shared with the broader C6 family?

So I did some homework to figure out what this is going to cost me in parts. My local Audi parts department quoted me a price of just under $1K for front & rear rotors and pads.
I then came to my senses and called Sunset Imports in Oregon (sunsetimports.com). They advertise their prices at dealer cost plus 15% for OEM Audi and Porsche parts. The total quote for the same exact parts as quoted by my local dealer - front & rear rotors and pads - came out to $600. Shipping from Oregon to Northern California / Bay Area is estimated at $40-$50.
As I compared the prices (Sunset quoted me the dealer list price and their price), I found out my local dealer was charging me 25% over list price!
Moral of this lesson for the DIY folks out there: shop around!
