replacing start and stop buttons?

No it works fine. Follow the link I posted earlier. While the start button is round, you replace the whole assembly when you replace the buttons. The entire rectangular shaped thing with both buttons on it is removed.

so after prying the boot you stick your fingers underneat and push and the entire start stop will pop out?

Yes. There is really nothing holding it in. They aren't expecting any upward force on the button.

If it makes you feel better to bash me...great...I had seen the pix of a round button and did not know the assembly was on the same shape and size of the current one... This was already responded to right after my post...

Anyway, whatever makes you feel better

The parts manager had to call his audi rep to make sure the 2009 button would work in a 2008 (which I knew it would). He confirmed that it will be a direct replacement and has ordered the part. I'll take some pics and do a detailed explanation when I install it.
