Guys, I am getting this warning on our 2006 A6 Avant for the Parking Brake Malfunction. I don't see any other warnings. I did a scan and see this data:

Address 53: DTCs cleared

I can't clear the parking brake DTC, it just comes back right away. I will try to clear the ABS warning today.

I used Output Tests to cycle both the left and right parking brake and that proceeded as expected. When I pull up on the parking brake switch in the car, the light does NOT come on. However, when I push down on the parking brake switch the light does illuminate. I'm wondering if this might be a simple switch failure?? (We use the parking brake all the time.) Has anyone replaced the switch?

The car still has its original battery, not sure if low voltage could cause this.

Thx.

05 3.2 big P light came on in July, indy checked for codes but nothing showed up. Over the last few weeks I've noticed hearing the parking brake cycle for about 30 seconds when turning off the car.
Yesterday it got stuck and I had to play with the switch for awhile to get it to work. I printed out the TSB and the indy couldn't figure it out.

Not sure what the next steps are.

I have this going on too on the driver side but I have not addressed it yet as my car is at an Indy shop for the cam tensioner. Try performing a Function Test with vagcom.

The PB does readjust itself every 1000 miles - so maybe that the noise that you heard.

Juju - how much is the indy charging for the cam tensioner?

I don't think the brakes are readjusting when this happens. It happens when the key goes from on to off position then the brakes start cycling on and off for about 30 sec. then they stop. This repeates every time the key goes to the off position, right NoVa?

@ am_ver - Indy is charging about 10% of the 10K that audi quoted me for

Default Update

Got my car back from indy and Indy fixed my cam tensioner. Unfortunately they did look at my e-PB cycling after off issue and they seem to think that the e-caliper is bad and needs replacement. I was hoping it was a bad switch or bad cable. Once I recover from this past hit I will replace the caliper and see if that fixes the issue. Has anyone have this happen and corrected this?

Default Module Replaced

Update: I did some more investigating and came up with a bad EPB module. I ordered a new one and just replaced it today. The super annoying audible warning is gone and 4 out of the 5 flashing brake warnings are gone. Unfortunately I still got one yellow Parking Brake warning in the top section of the dash information screen and after clearing all codes I now got a P02443. Do I have to code or activate the new Parking Module? If so how do I do it?

I also just changed out the parking brake control module, it was easy as pie. Now i am measuring current draw on both sides so it is working. However I can not get rid of the yellow warning light, i do notice with vagcom that i need to program it, i try but VCDS comes back with an error message not able to program. How does one do this? Is there a srep where you have to tell the computer the part is being replaced so it know to update it?

Ok, after reading the wiki on Ross Tech, i came across the solution. The yellow parking park warning light is gone. Maybe now I will finally learn to read and nor skim over material....lmao. I will say this, the money spent on the Vag tool has paid itself 100 folds over. When replacing this Control Module it is necessary to perform the Basic Settings Function Test (MVB 010) and Longitudinal Acceleration Sensor (MVB 020) first. This sets a Readiness Bit for each of the Basic Settings, Coding will not be accepted without having done this first! The go to group 07 and program these values:
  • 000??xx: Engine
    • 01 = 2.0l TDI (Diesel)
    • 03 = 3.0l TDI (Diesel)
    • 05 = 2.7l TDI (Diesel)
    • 10 = 2.0l TFSI (Gasoline)
    • 20 = 2.4l MPI (Gasoline)
    • 30 = 2.8l FSI (Gasoline)
    • 40 = 3.0l MPI (Gasoline)
    • 50 = 3.2l FSI (Gasoline)
    • 60 = 4.2l MPI (Gasoline)
    • 70 = 4.2l FSI (Gasoline)
  • 000xx?x: Transmission
    • 1 = Manual Transmission
    • 2 = Automatic Transmission (09L/09E)
    • 3 = Multitronic (01J)
  • 000xxx?: Country
    • 1 = Rest of World (RoW)
    • 2 = USA/Canada
    • 3 = Japan
