+1.

This is a classic example of HAI. The OE configuration was CAI

I can't imagine what the heat soak will be like if it ever gets warm where the car is operated

I bought a K&N like 1 week ago and I was very happy with the sound!!! but lets be honest the thing inside there gets really hot and you dont really get any performance increase... also I red all the stories about the MAF problems and for my 4.2V8 the MAF has also the IAT so its expensive so finally I decided to return the kn and return to stock

On my old a6 I tested temperature in the engine bay. I used the outdoor thermometer with sensor on long wire. I left sensor on the airbox and display on passenger seat. From my own research: it is hot only when car is sitting for some time.when out is moving there is airflow from outside. In my test when car moved 15 mph of faster temp inside was the same as outdoor.
I tested it on old 2.8 motor. New motors have tighter space and more heat. So 4.2l probably need to ride at 25mph to equalize temp.but the idea is clear.
I also tried k&n filter. I dropped some oil on maf sensor.I would never use anything but OEM.

It sounds like a zipper on a jacket.
