I just bought a well maintained '06 A6 Avant 3.2. The PO bought it '09 w/55K and sold to me w/182K. He's kept complete fuel & OC records for his ownership and it's always burned
a qt. every 2K. OC's at major intervals at indy AUDI dealer w/5w40 Fuchs or similar. He changed Oil/Filter every 5K w/Mobil 1 otherwise. I have the complete service records from 55K on and it's never needed intake or carbon cleaning in that period, mostly a long distance driver. Put VW dealer 502 spec oil in it my first change. In an effort to keep build up down I'll be putting in Motul Specific 504/507 5W30 next change. The local indy AUDI/VW guy has it at $50 for 5L.

I'm in Chicago
A couple of reasons...
1. 0W-40 was the only Moblie oil listed on the TSB I referenced
2. 0W-40 was "dirt cheap" (relatively) at ≈ USD23.00/5qt container (I was cash strapped, but did not want to compromise the health and performance of my A6 too much, if at all).
I put off changing the oil for sometime, and was long overdue. I wanted to change the oil "come hell or high water". Looking at how price prohibited Motul is, I may stick with Mobile 1 Euro blend, unless I experience the oil loss experienced by others on this forum. My A6 has been very forgiving regarding oil loss since purchase, combined with how short and infrequent I drive. How he behaves will have an impact on my future choice of Oil. For now I will guage How my A6 will behave with M1.

How long between oil changes?
I recently purchased a 2005 A6, and according to the little sticker I am about 1300 mi from an oil change. From what I have read, I think I'm convinced to use Motul.
My questions are:
What should I use? I was originally under the impression that 502.00/505.01 was fine, and then I came across this post on here:
so now I'm thinking about going with this one:https://www.motul.com/us/en-US/produ...%5Brange%5D=25
but its not on Audi's list of approved oils (see below)
SO,
Should I use the 504/507, or the 502.00/505.01??
and
How long between changes? This Motul oil recommends 15,000Km (9800Mi)!! That seems a bit much. I'm from the era where you change your oil every 3,000Mi. I can get myself to go 5,000Mi, but is 10,000Mi safe?
Thanks!!

10k is the recommendation. But I like you don't exactly feel comfortable. Never have never will. So I keep the oil checked for quality and topped off for the duration and I swap the oil filter every 5k

Bizzle, welcome aboard!
I had been doing 10k intervals on our 2006 A6 V6 wagon but have shortened the intervals up a bit (7500 miles) as the car has gained miles. I'm using a robust 5W40 oil from W*mart in that car.

Be careful how you interpret this information. The oil recommendation from Audi for most of the world is 504.00 (gas)/507.00 (diesel). But not the USA due to our gasoline. These newer oils have a lower starting TBN and it appears that the oil is depleted at or before the 10k mile interval in the USA. So, you have not seen widespread implementation of 504.00 in the USA. I suspect all the Owner's Manuals for cars sent to the USA are still quoting 502.00. It's a more robust oil. Personally, any 5W40 at Walmart will be work great for an out-of-warranty 3.2L engine. If still covered by warranty, I'd suggest sticking with a 502.00 spec'ed oil.
If you are inclined to run a 504.00 oil, in theory, it should keep the engine and the rear sides of the valves cleaner. The 504.00 spec has a mass change criteria for the valves meaning deposits are supposed to be held in check. I don't think you should go 10k miles on the 504.00 oils without some sort of monitoring in place. That's my opinion on it.
FWIW, the 504.00 oils are ALL 5w30 and tend to be somewhat more expensive compared to the mainstream 5W40 oils. MBz found that some of their cars were suffering a very odd build up of a "snot" like substance when running these Lo-SAPS oils and have discontinued them in the USA. They think it's a reaction with our ethanol-tainted gasoline. The substance was believed to be harmless.
SO,
Should I use the 504/507, or the 502.00/505.01??
