Motul 8100 Xcess

I've used Mobil 1 since it was introduced in the '70s. However, after their recent reformulation, I've moved on to Rotella for my high mileage Audi motors (200K+) and Motul (via Amazon as mentioned above) for my C6 A6 at 110K. I haven't done any oil testing or multiple statistically significant engine tear downs so I can't tell whether this has made any difference, but it makes a good story.

A lot of turbo folks (i.e. C5 2.7T) seem to like it and I've run it in the past, but in comparison to Mobil 1...I'd say skip it. The T6 seemed to 'burn' easier. Yes on the 4.2 you do get motor oil loss that simply gets shot out of the exhaust. Also, the car seemed to like the Mobil 1 more...but this is all subjective.

do some research on Motul, ive used both and to me the car seems to like the Motul much more, the engine just sounds better all together. She purs with Motul. also Motul doesnt burn as much oil as M1 does, (ie between oil changes).

Thanks for your input. I ended up going with M1. I recently returned from the Philippines and was a little cash strapped. Budget was a primary factor, but I wanted a decent oil. So far, M1 has been very effective w/no issues, and "seems" to have a positive effect on my fuel economy. This is my first change since purchasing this vehicle from a Chicago dealership (with 96k on the odometer), and suspected that this dealership may have used an oil that was detrimental to my fuel economy.

As long as she runs good. Watch her oil level also, M1 burns alot more then Motul does for my 4.2.

Thanks for the heads up. I took a look @ Motul after reading your previous post. i will probably use that oil on my next change for comparison purposes. I used a list of Audi approved oil from their TSB (17 13 35 2010043/13 January 9, 2013). I went with the European formula, 5 gallon (x2) containers of M1 0W-40, @ ≈$23.00 that I (reluctantly) bought from Walmart. I bought a Hengst Oil filter from a local Napa auto supply store. The oil/filter change was done by my local Mechanic because I had no off street location to perform the work myself. Once again, thanks for your input and advice.
