largest tire size (profile or outer diameter) that will fit on a 2010 A6
Hi guys, i am new to this forum and to Audis, just got a 2010 A6 Avant. It is stock height (without the sport package), with 18" wheels. I would like to get a higher-profile tire because one road i regularly drive on is extremely rough and uneven, so it would be helpful both for the decreased harshness and the additional ground clearance. I'd like to know the largest tire size, either in outer diameter or in actual tire size (for example my current tires are 245/40-18) that could fit without rubbing anything or causing issues when the suspension is compressed.
I realize this is probably an uncommon question as most people would want to lower their cars, if anything. So, alternately, if you know how much the car can be lowered with a stock tire size, without doing additional modifications to avoid rubbing, i think it would give a pretty good idea how much higher-profile a tire could be.

when upsizing to 20 inch wheels I've read of a person running a 255/35/20; on a c6 that was not lowered. The close equivalents would be 235/50/18 or 245/50/18. Both sizes are a bit over but the 235 is closer.

Thanks, good to know that. I have decided to try 245/50/18, it seems there is enough clearance with the possible exception of one steering/suspension part (not sure what that's called) above the front tires. Itmay fit but will have a very tight clearance, so i will use a spacer to push the wheels out a bit (maybe 15mm) and i think it will work fine. I'll post a follow-up after it's done.
