Default Just a few Quick Questions about the 3.2

I am long time Audi owner everything up to a C5 but now i am looking at a C6 to repalce my aging car ( 14 years 400,000km )

I have had 2.8 12v and 30v and found them both to be rock solid engines.

From what i have read the 3.0 engine available in the c5 has its issues.
How is the 3.2, and is it an extension of the 2.8 or 3.2 ?

Is it timing belt or Chain ?

Any issues with cam wear or any other premature failures ?

Is it your typical audi engine with eventual issues with cam tensioners , oil leaks etc ?

Thanks

if you do more research on here you'll find a lot of info .....most people on this c6 forum have the 3.2fsi but everybody's mileage is different some have problems and some are problems free .....main thing you'd encounter with the 3.2fsi is the carbon build up ...all c6 2005-2011 are running on chains

Have you test driven one yet? The 2.8 is no slouch, but the 3.2 is noticeably more powerful. I've had my 3.2 for a few months and haven't had any issues. I think it all comes down to how the previous owner treated the car.

if it were me and I was on the lookout for a C6 Audi, the only 2 models I would evaluate would be the 3.0T or the 4.2 (BTW, I'm biased since I have a non-FSI 4.2)

The 3.0T is almost infinitely tuneable and the 3.2 is anemic when compared to the 4.2.

You are being kind calling the 3.2 anemic. It's got no soul, no sound, no speed.

Okay guys thanks that is pretty well what I am looking for. Just wanted to know if anything lept out as.stay away.

It's a four door sedan to me, that is all, I'm not looking to race around the streets with it. I have other cars for that.
Thanks for the input and i will do some research on carbon build up.

Thanks again.

I am sensing you want some detail on the ownership experience. I have pasted in below one of my earlier posts. I am sure it will give the detail that you may be looking for.

I am getting ready to end my 9 years with my beloved 05 A6 4.2. She currently has 139k on the odometer. In order to assist my fellow owners in understanding the potential maintenance and repair issues with these cars, I am posting most of my service records, including prices paid and what was covered under warranty. When I receive delivery information on my factory order 2015 A6 TDI I may post the 05 in the classifieds. She has had over $20,000 in repairs in the last 10,000 miles and is probably only worth $7,000 so she may be a steal for a forum member who is mechanically inclined. Of course my wife says I will never sell it. We will see. I have really enjoyed the forum. Thanks.

I would stay away from the 2005-2006 4.2's. The timing chain problems are outrageous... Most C6's won't have any major problems until the later 100k miles, its still such a pain to replace the parts and embarrassing when you start the car and people are around to hear what it sounds like before the oil pressure is built up.

The 3.2 has timing chain problems as well, but is a lot easier to fix because you don't have to pull the engine. I haven't heard of any problems with the FSI 4.2's (2007+) besides carbon buildup.
