Fixed a problem myself and saved a fortune
Took a drive to visit my Dad today. 3 hours each way.
About a half hour into the trip, I became aware of a fairly loud rattling sound that was coming from in front of me and to the right, apparently in the dash. Every bump produced a rattle that sounded like an empty plastic prescription bottle was rolling and bouncing around in there.
It was really driving me crazy, and I spent a good deal of the drive trying to hit bumps while simultaneously trying to muffle various parts of the dash and console with my hand. My wife thought I was nuts.
Finally, on the way back (about an hour from home)I finally localized the source of the noise. Turns out my visor wasn't clipped in place, and the end piece was rattling against the clip.
Of course I felt like a jackass, but I was still very relieved. Thank God I didn't take it into the dealership - then I really would've felt stupid.
Take home lesson? Don't overlook the obvious, and be prepared to have a good laugh at your own expense from time to time.
