I need some advise on my problem. I have an 2005 AUDI A6 Quattro. The dealer
has told me that the dcd/navi is fried!. I confirmed this with a repair center. I have located a used one on E-bay but no one at the Audi dealership or at a junkyard can tell me that a dvd/navi out of a 2008 a6 will work in my 2005 A6-

Should work fine, just be sure to have your MMI firmware updated.

If you buy it on ebay and try it and it does not work you can sell it back on ebay for about the same price. Whole damage would be a few dollars for shipping. "M" mprobubly means newer software version. I assume it will come with >5 version of Navigation. I would avoid putting earlier version of nav DVD in it as well.

I also would upgrade rest of the MMI to the recent release BEFORE connectint to the Nav. so Nav and MMI could talk to each other.

BTW, how did it got broken at the first place?

I have know IDEA how it broke! I had been having trouble with the Bose
radio ( static when cold) the dealer did a reset and I never checked the Navi till about 3-4 months later and it didn't work.It did work fine before that but really have know idea if what the did had any effects on the Navi unit getting fried.
Thanks for all the info.
I spent most of the morning talking to the dealership and junkyars with no
good answers.

there are a few sticky posts about it. you need cd and a bit of a ***** since if something goes wrong you will need to buy new hardware.
I thought of two reasons to update mmi: it will be compatible with already insalled software on new nav and if you will decide to do it latter, you will not put older nav code on newer nav.

finally if you update mmi software with the old nav attached it migh miracluosly fix the original nav - you never now.

I have a 2008/2009 US version Nav DVD part number 4E0 919 884 BK.
PM me if you're interested. I moved to Europe so I have no use for it, plus I flashed the car to euro software anyways.
