Dealer trade in phone calls?
Received two calls this afternoon, both from the Audi dealer where I purchased as a CPO and from an Infiniti dealer. Both looking to buy my car as they have a 'need' for quality used cars. I read an article in the paper a few weeks back talking about the used car market being in sad shape and dealers being very active/aggressive in trying to buy back used cars.
Just curious, anyone take advantage of the situation and work out a good/great/awesome deal?

Same exact thing happened to me today.
My Brand Specialist is practically begging me to trade up since they 'need used vehicles'
I don't have $103,000 laying around right now so that's a discussion for the summer.
Local Audi dealerships can't keep new or used in stock and are having record unit sales.

It is also a ploy many car sales people use to get you to come in so they can try and make a sale. Go talk with them as I bet you won't get exceptional value for your trade in. I've had this tactic tried on myself.

fluctuations do occur but lets keep in mind that its a business they are running
they have procedures in place
i would just sum it up as marketing to get u into the door
being tax season also helps
call up any sales man and they dont have a clue what car you drive
and if u get into discussing numbers on a car
their need for "quality used cars like yours" goes out the window when they try to give you nothing for your trade

I think it maybe just a mailing list or as Midwestuser1 a marketing ploy. I got a letter from one Audi dealer the one near my office awhile back, and a voicemail from my real audi dealer by my house recently that i go to most often and they both asked to buy my car. Also the letter came from some marketing clearing house or something because the return address was out of state. Anyways long story short my car has 100,xxx miles on it. I highly doubt mine would be considered a quality used car or anyone would want to buy used with that many miles on it.
They probably are short of used car though because I was hoping to get a A5 prestige an 09 model year, but they had none at that trim level or navigation which is what i care about the most.

it's a ploy like others said to get you there
I had a dealer I bought my G35 from send me letters saying they needed used cars and wanted to buy it back. They said they would offer X amount in the letter. When I went there they low balled me on my car and walked out and told them to fvck off.

The used car market is on fire right now. Think about it. No one has the money for a new car because of this economy. So what is the best alternative? A used car saves thousands vs. new. Honestly there are very few arguements for buying new with the way these cars are built to last now-a-days.
I bought my first 99 A6 for $18K with 33K miles - it lasted me 8 years until it died with 190K miles...
I just bought my 05 A6 4.2 with 73K miles for $17K. The car was $52K new - and I got it for $17K - doesnt that really explain why the used car market has exploded? Im driving the same car that someone paid $52K... Even if it needs a ton of repairs - it will never cost me $35K in repairs - so no matter what, Im always ahead of the curve...
Just my .02 cents.
